Position Papers aim at identifying the teaching of the Catholic Church and indicating ways in which this teaching can be applied in practice. For this reason the main sources used are official Church statements, directed either to the Church at large or to local churches.

The material published varies in readability but is usually not highbrow. The accent is on clear and accurate doctrine, and experience of Christian living, which a person can absorb fairly easily and pass on in his or her own environment – home, work, leisure, school or church.

Opinions of writers in Position Papers do not necessarily reflect those of the editors. Contributions (including letters), preferably short and typewritten, are welcomed, as are suggestions for topics to be treated.

Where articles are credited to another English language source, permission to reproduce same should be sought from that source. In the case of material emanating from the Holy See or members of the Hierarchy these are from the most part in the public domain. Other articles Position Papers, who normally will on application give permission to reproduce gratis subject only to a credit in this form: `Reprinted, with permission from Position Papers, Dublin’.
